On Wednesday, January 19th, we passed our facilities inspection. It’s still very strange going from 5 acres of rehabilitation caging to a “rehab room”, but we have the go-ahead and we are!

On Thursay, January 20th, we admitted our first patient: a female adult gray squirrel. She had been attacked by a weasel in someone’s yard. They watched it happen. Then for several days they called everyone they could think of to find someone to help it. They finally found us by accident after being told we were no longer in the area and there was no one to help them.

The squirrel has serious head injuries further compounded by the days of no treatment. Head trauma is best treated immediately though realistically in wildlife most is not found right after an injury. Had these people been able to find help right away, the prognosis for her outcome would most likely be much better.

As always, we are putting our best efforts into helping her and in the end do what is best for her.
